The Ohio legislature recently passed House Bill 68, which protects women’s sports in Ohio, keeping equality for girls and women on the playing field. The bill also prevents gender reassignment surgeries and the use of cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers for children, protecting them from procedures and drugs that have life-long consequences while ensuring access to mental health care.
Unfortunately, Governor Mike DeWine chose to veto this good bill. I am very disappointed in this choice and urge my colleagues to override the Governor’s veto. Doing any less puts our children at risk of exploitation. Allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports is dangerous and unfair to women. The override process had to begin where the bill originated: the Ohio House. The House voted to override the veto. Now it is the Senate’s turn.
